My 20-Year-Old Self Dreamed Of Becoming A Millionaire by 30. It's Unlikely To Happen And That's Okay. Here's Why.
As I'm sitting here with a net worth of approximately $650,000, I'm well off my goal to reach $1M by 30 goal (2 years from today). But I not worried. Here's why.
Becoming a millionaire is a common goal for many people, especially those in their 20s and 30s, including mine.
There's something exciting and enticing about the idea of having a million dollars in your bank account. It represents financial security, freedom, and success.
But the reality is, becoming a millionaire isn't as easy or glamorous as it seems. It takes hard work, dedication, and often a bit of luck.
As I continue on my journey towards reaching my goal, I've learned valuable lessons that make me confident and not worried about the timeline.
I hope this advice can help you too, no matter what age or financial goal you're aiming for.
It was never just about the goal
Setting goals is not just about reaching a specific target or milestone. It's about growth, both personally and professionally.
Through setting my goal of becoming a millionaire by 30, I have learned important life lessons, such as discipline, perseverance, and patience.
I have also developed skills that will help me in the long run, such as investing, budgeting, and being financially responsible.
While the end goal may be important, it's the journey towards reaching it that truly shapes us and prepares us for what lies ahead. And for that, I am grateful.
Striving for stretch goals pushes you beyond your limits
Even if your aim is to reach the stars, and you fall short, you'll still find yourself landing on the moon.
When I set this ambitious goal at the age of 20, I was young and naive, and becoming a millionaire seemed like nothing more than a distant dream.
By the time I turned 25 ($180K net worth), it had transformed into a challenging objective, and now, at 28 ($650K net worth), I'm beginning to believe it may indeed be within my grasp.
Although I still have a long journey ahead, I am confident that with unwavering dedication and persistent drive, I will eventually arrive at my destination. If not by the age of 30, then certainly by 31. And if not by 31, then by 32.
The most incredible aspect of setting this goal has been the profound impact it has had on my life, motivating me to take both small and significant steps that have brought me closer to its realisation today.
My 20-year-old self would have never imagined this level of achievement would be achievable, and she would undoubtedly be immensely proud of the person I have become.
It's not just about the money
While becoming a millionaire is often associated with financial stability and success, it's important to remember that true wealth lies beyond just monetary value.
The lessons and skills I have gained through this journey are invaluable. The relationships I have formed and the experiences I have had are priceless.
Becoming a millionaire by 30 is not just about the money, but also about the personal growth and fulfilment that comes with it. And for me, that is more important than any dollar amount.
It's all just on paper
We're so used to seeing celebrities and influencer's net worth flaunted in the media that we often forget one crucial detail - it's all just on paper.
While having a high net worth may be impressive, it doesn't necessarily equate to actual cash flow or financial stability.
Many people considered millionaires have most of their wealth tied up in assets such as property or investments, and may not have significant liquid assets.
So, while it's great to have a goal of becoming rich on paper, it's important to focus on building a sustainable and diverse financial portfolio.
In the end, what matters is not the number on the books, but how you manage and utilise your wealth for both personal and societal good.
Don't be afraid to dream big
Setting a goal to become a millionaire by 30 may seem unrealistic or even crazy to some people. But I believe it's important to have big dreams and goals in life.
They push us to become better versions of ourselves and keep us motivated.
Don't let anyone discourage you from dreaming big or setting ambitious goals for yourself. Surround yourself with people who support and encourage your dreams, and believe in yourself even when others may not.
Remember, it's not about the end goal, but the journey towards it that truly matters. So don't be afraid to dream big and never stop working towards your goals, no matter how out of reach they may seem. Who knows, you might surprise yourself with what you can achieve.
So keep dreaming and continue hustling!
